  1. The new COVID-19 subvariant BA.5 is spiking in San Diego. Hospitalizations have risen, and wastewater data shows an uptick in the number of cases. However, a number of cases remain uncounted as they are detected using home antigen tests. ICU admissions have risen 68%. “We’ve seen a series of additional sweeps come through associated with this BA.2 lineage of omicron and then another BA.2 lineage, and then most recently and somewhat threateningly, BA.4 and BA.5 coming out of nowhere and taking over,” explained researcher Joshua Levy. 2. They call it a megadrought, and it has hit California hard. Scientists say that it is the worst drought in 1200 years. This is what prompted Governor Newson to order new emergency water cutbacks. Yet, San Diego has been good about moving towards water conservation. Learn what small changes you can make to save water. 3. Planning to go to Comic-Con this year? If so, you should know that masks will be mandatory. How do attendees feel about it? “I don’t know if they were excited about having to wear a mask but they didn’t seem upset about it,” David Glanzer, spokesperson for Comic. “They were just excited to be able to join comic con again after two years of no in person events.” Comic-Con will be using the Clear Health Pass to show proof of vaccination.
